ABOUT THE COURSE
B.sc operation
theatre technology is an undergraduate course and an operation theatre
technician is an allied healthcare professional. A professional operation
theatre technician trained to assist Doctors or Surgeons during surgery.
This course is generally known as a job oriented
paramedical course.

General function
of an OT technician under the instructions of the Doctor/Surgeon leading the
surgery
·
They look after
all the work and management of the operation theatre
·
They look after
the drugs the required for surgery, anesthetic gases, drapes and all the linen
and their sterilization.
·
They are known
as backbone of the operation theatre.
·
They work in
private and government hospitals, nursing homes/ health care settings.
·
ICUs, CCUs and
Emergency departments are common work places of an OT technician
·
Assisting the
Doctor/Surgeon during the operations
·
They are capable
of taking care of basic patient monitoring activities
·
They work as
reliable members of health care teams under the guidance and supervision of
nursing anesthetic and surgical staff during surgery.
ELIGIBILITY
Should have passed 12th Standard examination with
Physics, Chemistry and Biology
Lateral Entry
Candidates who have secured a diploma in OT
Technology from a board recognized by the Government

OT Technicians are allied healthcare professionals. In
this era Operation theatre technology
scope is very high and they have an important role in the smooth
functioning of ICUs, CCUs and Operation theatres in hospitals and clinics.
OT Technicians are also done the role of an
instructor or teacher at relevant training institutes.
SALARY
In India an OT technicians may earn around 10-15k
Rupees per month. In case of Government job, salary will be based on Pay Band
and scale. In the case of Abroad the pay scale is much higher than it is in
India. In this era Operation theatre
technology scope is very high
Starting
salary depends on a number of different factors for example profile of the
employer, employee skills, aptitude and grades attained by the employee.
OPERATION THEATRE TECHNOLOGY SCOPE
This is a job oriented paramedical area and gives ample
job opportunities. Due to the fast expanding medical care facilities in the
government and private sector, there is lot of scope for operation theatre
assistants and technicians.
